Paul Fain of Asset Planning Corporation will be the keynote speaker at the Financial Planning Association’s Annual Retreat (https://fparetreat.org/) to be held April 23-26 at The Wigwam in Litchfield Park, Arizona. With his talk billed as “A Pioneer, A Profession, A Practice and A Planner,” Paul plans to share the highs and the lows, the key learnings, the heartbreak and the exhilaration of being a personal financial planner.
Paul’s unique position – first as an apprentice to a financial planning legend (his father), and later as a “NexGen” business owner and then his 30 years as a financial planner, give him a certain perspective that he uses with clients, colleagues and the public in his role as a financial educator. Paul Fain is a regular contributor to the Knoxville News Sentinel and to WBIR Knoxville’s Sunday Money segment so “he is used to being a lifelong educator, it comes naturally to him,” says company vice president, Joe Ottaviano. The firm regularly holds educational events such as “Do Elections Affect Markets?” and “Tax Preparedness” to which the public is also invited, but they have stepped up their sessions to also be available on their online blog and available in white paper form on their website. “We believe an educated investor is a wise investor,” says Paul. All associates in the firm have added “communications” to their list of job titles, sharing via Linkedin, Facebook, and Twitter routinely the latest content.
Paul’s father, P. Kemp Fain Jr., was the first CFP® candidate in 1972. P. Kemp Fain was later President and Chairman of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and he co-founded what is now known as the CFP Board of Standards, the regulatory and rule-making body for CFP® licensees and practitioners. Annually, the P. Kemp Fain award is given to a person responsible for advances in the field of financial planning. “My father was an industry pioneer,” says Paul, “and he taught me well.”
