The second quarter of 2019 is in-the-books for investors…how did you do? Paul Fain, certified financial planner and president of Asset Planning Corporation, discusses the results for investors this week on WBIR.
THE MONTH OF MAY WAS LOUSY, BUT HOW DID THE MARKET RALLY BACK IN JUNE?
We did see some improvements in the month of June. The S&P 500 (large US company stocks):
7% June
4.3% Quarter 2
18.5% Year to Date
Also note that the data can tell any story depending on the dates used. For example, from October 2018 to June 2019, the S&P 500 was up only 1%.
WHAT ARE SOME OTHER BENCHMARK RETURNS FOR INVESTMENT CATEGORIES AT THE END OF QUARTER 2?

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO INVESTORS MOVING FORWARD?
- Know current events – but – play the long game.
- Recession concerns are mounting but still down the road.
- Trade tensions = volatility
- NHL legend Wayne Gretzky once said, “I skate to where the puck is going to be, not to where it has been.”
- Opportunities often lurk in the downtrodden areas of the market.
